Step 1: Download Mumble
Go to the Mumble website and download the latest client you can find. If you're brave you can download the snapshots, but if you're not sure what you're doing we recommend the latest stable version. Once it's downloaded, go ahead and install it.
Step 2: Configure your Microphone
If you don't already have a mic, we recommend going to eBay and picking up a cheap USB headset. It'll let you keep your sounds separate from the mic chat so you can just mute/deafen Mumble, hang up the headset and you're done talking.
It can't be stressed enough how important it is to patiently go through the Mumble audio wizard! Seriously, it's the difference between sounding like you're in the room with someone or in a 50 gallon drum dropped in a river somewhere. We all think we know enough to skip through it as fast as we can.
Step 3: Set the gain to something sensible
Sometimes when you race through the wizard (and sometimes even if you don't), Mumble's wizard sets the amplification way too high. This creates pops and stuff when you're talking, especially on "S"s. Click "Configure" menu; then "Settings". Go to the "Audio Output" section, and pick "local loopback", then click "Apply" and start talking... you should be able to hear yourself clearly. Now go back to "Audio Input" section, and reduce "Amplification" as close to 1.00 as you can get it without you getting too quiet. Then go back to output, turn loopback off and click "OK".
Step 4: Connect to our server
We use the "Dallas MumbleDog" server, which can be found by connecting to mumble.moodoo.org. The port is the default, you should pick your username to be something meaningful so people know who you are.
Step 5: Gain access to the Moodoo channel
Click "Server" menu, then click "Access Tokens". Click "Add", then type the supar-secret password given to you by another moodooer, then click "OK". You should now be able to access the Moodoo-only channel.
Happy Mumbling!
